Flanders (1386-87) 2 mite
This specimen was lot 1248 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €150 (about US$173 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips de Stoute (1384-1404), biljoen dubbele mijt, 1386-1387, Gent. Vz/ + PHS D B COM FLAND F·L in het veld onder een streep. Kz/ + MONETA FLANDRIE Gevoet kruis met een leeuw en een lelie in de kwartieren. Zeer zeldzaam. (county of Flanders, Philip the Bold, 1384-1404, billon double mite, circa 1386-87, Ghent mint. Obverse: "FL" in field, legend around; reverse: cross cantonned with lions and lilies. Very rare, Fine.)
Twelve of these coins made a groot. They were nearly pure copper.
