Estonia 2008 50 krooni
This specimen was lot 39102 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "ESTONIA. 50 Krooni, 2008. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO. Struck on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the republic. Superb design with an eccentric coat of arms flanked by laurels. No mintage listed in Krause, but presumably similar to the 100 Krooni which saw 3,000 coins struck." Estonia, long occupied by Czarist Russia, obtained its independence in the aftermath of World War One. Reoccupied by the Russians in 1940, she was subject to Soviet rule until 1991, when the collapse of the Communists allowed the Estonians to once again reclaim independence. Estonia's bid to join the euro was finally successful in 2011.
Recorded mintage: c. 3,000 proofs.
Specification: 8.64 g, 0.999 fine gold, 22 mm diameter.
