This specimen was lot 39103 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $440.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "ESTONIA. 100 Krooni, 2008. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO. Platinum. From a mintage of only 3,000 coins. Struck on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the republic. Attractive design that shows well on this very hard precious metal." Estonia, long occupied by Czarist Russia, obtained its independence in the aftermath of World War One. Reoccupied by the Russians in 1940, she was subject to Soviet rule until 1991, when the collapse of the Communists allowed the Estonians to once again reclaim independence.
