Estonia, long occupied by Czarist Russia, obtained its independence in the aftermath of World War One. Reoccupied by the Russians in 1940, she was subject to Soviet rule until 1991, when the collapse of the Communists allowed the Estonians to once again reclaim independence. This type was struck in 1992 upon independence and again 2004-07. Estonia's bid to join the euro was finally successful in 2011.
