Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 3277

This specimen was lot 3277 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 50 € (about US$65 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Estonia. 1992. 10 coronas. Juegos Olímpicos - Barcelona '92. AG. Proof." Estonia, long occupied by Czarist Russia, obtained its independence in the aftermath of World War One. Reoccupied by the Russians in 1940, she was subject to Soviet rule until 1991, when the collapse of the Communists allowed the Estonians to once again reclaim independence. This type was struck in 1992 for the Olympic Games. Estonia's bid to join the euro was finally successful in 2011.
