This specimen was lot 71109 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, (160)2. London Mint; mm: 2 (indicating the date). Elizabeth I. PCGS EF-40. Obverse: Crowned and mantled bust left; Reverse: Coat-of-arms over long cross fourchee. Struck in the penultimate year of the reign of the "Virgin Queen," this deeply toned Shilling offers tremendous originality and a wholesome overall appearance, with excellent detail remaining on each side." This is the last shilling struck for the Virgin Queen, who died in 1603.
