This specimen was lot 40331 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Groat (2 Pence), ND (1554-58). London Mint; mm: Lis. Philip & Mary. PCGS VF-25. Obverse: Crowned and robed bust left; Reverse: Square-topped coat-of-arms over long cross fourchee. A VERY RARELY encountered denomination and highly desirable in the present problem-free state; on the odd occasion when pieces do arise, they typically feature creasing, plugging, or other major issues. The legends are fully legible and intact, with a relatively strong portrait, the only flaw being a small striking split along the edge. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: V. J. E. The legend ("PHILIP·ET·MARIA· D·G·REX·ET·REGINA") mentions both Philip and Mary but only Mary is shown here.
