This specimen was lot 40326 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (1553-54). London Mint; mm: Pomegranate. Mary I. PCGS EF-40. Obverse: Crowned bust left; Reverse: Coat of arms. An EXTREME RARITY and the smallest denomination issued during Mary's reign. When encountered, most examples exhibit heavy creasing or other surface issues, but the present example has survived in an impressive problem-free state, with much detail remaining and pleasingly original surfaces. From the Richard August Collection." The reverse motto, "VERITAS TEMP FILIA," translates to, "Truth is the daughter of time." Later pennies of Mary depicted her with her husband Philip II of Spain.
