Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75346

This specimen was lot 75346 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Groat (2 Pence), ND (1509-26). London Mint; mm: Crowned Portcullis. Henry VIII. PCGS AU-58. Obverse: Crowned bust right; Reverse: Long cross fourchee. A gorgeous specimen of this SCARCE portraited minor, bearing exceptionally wholesome surfaces that shimmer with a myriad of colorful hues about the peripheries. From the Richard August Collection." This halfgroat, or tupppence, bearing the bust of the king's father, still looks medieval. Halfgroats were also struck at Canterbury (minmark WA), York and Tournai in France.
