This specimen was lot 44387 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $9,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "EL SALVADOR. Central American Republic. 2 Reales, 1833. San Salvador Mint. PCGS AU-50. VERY RARE this alluring and problem-free, the present minor stands as the only such representative of the type in the PCGS census, and offers a tremendous opportunity for the specialists of the series. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This specimen is from a series of debased two reales struck in 1828-34 while El Salvador was part of the Central American Republic. All provisional two reales of this type are very rare.
