from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 1381

This specimen is from a series of debased two reales struck in 1828-34 while El Salvador was part of the Central American Republic. All provisional two reales of this type are very rare. This specimen was lot 1381 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $528.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "San Salvador, El Salvador, 2 reales, 1834, retrograde S (in PROVISIONAL), encapsulated NGC XF details/tooled, ex-Richard Stuart (stated inside slab). More like lustrous AU with deep toning but with light smoothing of porous fields, off-center mountain side. Pedigreed to the Richard Stuart collection." Other provisional two reales for 1834 include KM 11.6, 11.7, 11.14.
