The specimen shown is from a series of debased reales struck in 1833-35 while El Salvador was part of the Central American Republic. All provisional medio reales of this type are very rare. This specimen was lot 1234 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "EL SALVADOR. Provisional Coinage. 1/2 Real, 1833. 'P(OR) (LA) LIVERTAD DEL SAL'; Reverse: 'MONEDA PROVIS(IONAL) 1833'. VERY RARE. Unevenly struck, toned. FINE."
