The specimen shown is from a series of debased half reales struck in 1833-35 while El Salvador was part of the Central American Republic. All provisional half reales of this type are very rare. It was lot 9130 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $920. The catalog description[1] noted, "EL SALVADOR. Provisional Coinage. 1/2 Real, 1835. KM-21.3 (but 1 over 'P' to right of pillar). Obverse: POR LA LIBERTAD SALVA . Reverse: MONEDA PRO(VIS)IONAL : 1835 Ex: Ponterio & Associates Auction #65 October 1993, lot #534. VERY RARE. Nice for this type. Some light scratches on both obverse and reverse, somewhat obscured by toning. CHOICE VERY FINE."
