from Steve Album sale 45, lot 649

The coin shown is a gold twenty-five qirsh from the reign of Sultan Abdul Aziz. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, with the denomination written below (abbreviated as the letter 'sh' for qirsh) with the number 25 above. A crude floral design sits right of the toughra. The reverse carries the accession date and the text minted in Misr (Misr is Arabic for Egypt). The date is written as AH 1277 year 10, which translates to about 1869 AD. This specimen was lot 649 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT: Abdul Aziz, 1861-1876, AV 25 qirsh, Misr, AH1277 year 10, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63."
