Egypt AH 1277(10) 20 para KM-246
The coin shown is a copper twenty para from the reign of Sultan Abdul Aziz. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, with the denomination written below (abbreviated as the letter P for para) with the number 20. A flower to the right of the toughra indicates that it is from the Cairo mint. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text minted in Misr (Misr is Arabic for Egypt). The date is written as AH 1277 year 10, which translates to about 1869 AD. Uslu[1] lists this issue as rare.
This example was part of lot 13276 and sold on Sept 9, 2004 for $138 at the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357 by Heritage Auctions. The catalog description read:
"Abdul Aziz Copper 10 & 20 Para 1277AH, Cairo Mint strikings of these two denominations with the flower to the right of the tughra. KM242, rare type, 10 Para Year 8, VG but dark and corroded, and Year 9, VG and heavily oxidized, plus KM246 20 Para, Year 8 AVF, 9 VF and 10 AVF. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
