This specimen was lot 2277 in Goldberg sale 100 (Los Angeles, September 2017), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Egypt. 5 Pounds, 1968. 1400th Anniversary of the Koran. Uncirculated." After Nasser's death in 1970, the alliance with Syria was dropped and the country renamed the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Recorded mintage: 10,000.
