This specimen was lot 31035 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $1,980. The catalog description[1] noted, "Egypt: Arab Republic gold "Gamal Abdel Nasser" 5 Pounds AH 1390 (1970) MS63 NGC. Memorializing Gamal Abdel Nasser, the second president of Egypt, and most notable for overthrowing King Farouk in 1952, this choice example displays a sparsely decorated profile bust of the leader on the obverse with deep apricot hues towards the peripheries. From the Paramount Collection." After Nasser's death in 1970, Anwar Sadat won the ensuing power struggle. He dropped the alliance with Syria and renamed the country the Arab Republic of Egypt.
