This specimen was lot 71754 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT. Pound, AH 1390/1970. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, UNC Details. Commemorating the death of President Nasser. Despite the noted cleaning, this small sized gold issue is rather attractive with its simplistic design." After Nasser's death in 1970, Anwar Sadat won the ensuing power struggle. He dropped the alliance with Syria and renamed the country the Arab Republic of Egypt.
