This specimen was lot 29642 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 5 Pounds AH1384 (1964) MS64 NGC. Lightly toned with a touch of reverse handling that prevents Gem certification. A popular commemorative issue that was struck to commemorate the div[er]sion of the Nile." This commemorative honoring the opening of the Aswan Dam was accompanied by a gold ten pounds (KM 409) and silver five (KM 404), ten (KM 405), twenty-five (KM 406) and fifty piastres (KM 407). After Nasser's death in 1970, the alliance with Syria was dropped and the country renamed the Arab Republic of Egypt.
