This specimen was lot 34279 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "United Arab Republic gold 10 Pounds AH 1384 (1964) UNC. Diversion of the Nile. Mintage of 2,000 pieces." This commemorative honoring the opening of the Aswan Dam was accompanied by a gold five pounds (KM 408) and silver five (KM 404), ten (KM 405), twenty-five (KM 406) and fifty piastres (KM 407). After Nasser's death in 1970, the alliance with Syria was dropped and the country renamed the Arab Republic of Egypt.
