Ecuador 2023 5 centavos rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck at the Royal Mint as part of a series to honor famous Ecuadoreans. This one features Isidro Ayora (1879-1978), who was President of Ecuador from 1926 to 1931. Five, ten, twenty-five and fifty centavos were issued using the modules of United States coins altho in stainless steel instead of copper-nickel. As Ecuador is dollarized, they are likely intended to be convertible to the dollar and not the old sucre.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.95 g, stainless steel, 21.9 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 131.
