This type was struck at the Royal Mint as part of a series to honor famous Ecuadoreans. This one features indigenous leader Tránsito Amaguaña (1909-2009). Five, ten, twenty-five and fifty centavos were issued using the modules of United States coins altho in stainless steel instead of copper-nickel. As Ecuador is dollarized, they are likely intended to be convertible to the dollar and not the old sucre.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 11.25 g, stainless steel, 30.6 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 138.
