Ecuador 2023Icaza 25 centavos rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck at the Royal Mint as part of a series to honor famous Ecuadoreans. This one features author Jorge Icaza (1906-78). Five, ten, twenty-five and fifty centavos were issued using the modules of United States coins altho in stainless steel instead of copper-nickel. As Ecuador is dollarized, they are likely intended to be convertible to the dollar and not the old sucre.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.8 g, stainless steel, 24.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 135.
