This specimen was lot 7091 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $8,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "ECUADOR. 8 Escudos, 1842-MVS. Lightly cleaned, bold VERY FINE+." This type was struck 1841-43 and superseded a similar design (KM 23.1) issued 1838-41. Like all predecimal Ecuadorian gold coins, it is rare. One, two and four escudo pieces also exist.
