This specimen was lot 1722 in the Eliasberg sale, which sold for $4,140. The catalog description[1] noted,

"1835 GJ 2 escudos. Quito mint. AU-58 (NGC). Types as above. Lustrous medium gold with rich orange highlights, abundant lustre on reflective fields. Some trivial hairlines but no serious flaws. This type is practically never found in such fine condition, and the superb grade of the Ecuadorian coins assembled here is a tribute to the taste of both John Clapp and Louis Eliasberg, Sr. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."

This type was struck 1833-35 and, like all Ecuadorian predecimal gold coins, is rare and expensive.
