This specimen was lot 1665 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description[1] noted, "1835 F 2 escudos. CR mint. MS-62 (NGC). Types as above. Lustrous medium gold, sharply struck and attractive. A problem-free specimen and an ideal type coin. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck in Costa Rica intermittently 1828-50 but the SCWC files this under the Central American Republic. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 6.67 grams, 23.10 mm diameter.
