This specimen was lot 1417 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $141.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "Quito, Ecuador, 1 real, 1835GJ, EL ECUADOR EN COLOMBIA, rare. Fine with weak center on date side, nice toning, old scuffs, final year of Colombian aegis." This type was struck 1833-35 and normally encountered in Fine or lower. It is among the earliest coins struck in Ecuador.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
Specification: 3.0-3.4 g, 0.667 fine silver, this specimen 2.8 grams.
