Ecuador 1837 2 reales rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a series struck 1837-38. It is scarce, but not rare. It varies from the previous type (KM 18, struck 1836-41) in having the obverse and reverse legends transposed. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian two reales of 1830. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.5-6.05 g, 0.667 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 21.
