This specimen is one of a series struck 1833-41. It is scarce, but probably the most common type of pre-decimal coin from Ecuador. A rare variety (KM 14) shows the obverse legend as "ECUADOR EN COLOMBIA" instead of "REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR" as shown here. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.
