The first specimen was lot 23738 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 2 Reales 1836-FP, AU55 NGC, with QUITO DEL ECUADOR, sharply struck with considerable original mint luster, a most attractive example of this crude early coinage." This specimen is one of a series struck 1833-41. It is scarce, but probably the most common type of pre-decimal coin from Ecuador. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued, especially in this quality.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 5.8-6.1 g, 0.667 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 18.
