The first specimen was lot 20817 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $2,185. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Escudos 1837-FP, VF35 NGC, a nice evenly worn example of this highly popular series." This type was struck 1836-41 and, like all Ecuadorian predecimal gold coins, is rare and expensive.
