This specimen was lot 32708 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Real 1837-FP VF30 NGC. Quito-Transposed Legends. This date is listed as 'Rare' in Krause." This type was struck 1836-41 and normally encountered in Fine or lower. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian one real of 1830. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.0-3.4 g, 0.667 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 17.
