This specimen was lot 23741 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1834-GJ, XF45 NGC, a most attractive example of this very scarce type with sharp features and wide edge reeding. The surfaces retain a soft and fully original tone with traces of luster in the peripheral legends." This type was struck 1833-35 and, like all Ecuadorian predecimal gold coins, is rare and expensive.
