This specimen was lot 30487 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $3,701.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1833 Quito-GJ, XF40 NGC. Crudely struck as always but quite attractive with light toning and fully readable details. Very scarce in this quality and an ever popular series. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." This type was struck 1833-35 and, like all Ecuadorian predecimal gold coins, is rare and expensive.
