CNG Lissner sale, lot 224

This specimen was lot 224 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $302.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Christian X. 1912-1947. AR 2 Kroner. Commemorating the king’s silver wedding anniversary. København (Copenhagen) mint. Hans Christian Nielsen, mintmaster. Knud Gunnar Jensen, engraver. Dually dated 1898 and 1923 GJ HCN. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Gem lightly toned uncirculated." Altho Denmark was neutral in World War One, it was subject to the same higher prices for raw materials. The two kroner was converted to aluminum bronze in 1924 and struck to that standard until 1959. Commemoratives, such as this one from 1930, continued to be issued in silver.
