Heritage sale 3076, part of lot 31385
Denmark H3076-31385r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31385 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark. Christian X 10 Ore 1923 HCN-GJ MS67 PCGS, Copenhagen mint, Notably the scarcest date of this four-year type, and therefore even more impressive in this near-perfect preservation. To convey an idea of relative values, the Standard Catalog of World Coins notes the next-scarcest date (1922) at a value of $120 in MS63, while the 1923-dated issue is valued at $1,400. While these figures are high at the listed grade, we do note that this coin previously sold for $1,495 including Buyer's Premium (Auction 231127, Lot 64080), a testament to the premium placed on such a strong representative of the issue." Altho Denmark was neutral in World War One, it was subject to the same higher prices for raw materials. The ten øre, which had formerly been billon, was converted to copper-nickel in 1920 and struck in that alloy until the 1980's. In 1924, the coin was enlarged and a central hole added. The 1922 and 1923 are listed as scarce dates.

Recorded mintage: 1,790,000.

Specification: 1.5 g, copper-nickel, 15 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 818.2a.
