Denmark 1924-HCN 1/2 krone
This specimen was lot 220 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $272.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Christian X. 1912-1947. AL-Æ 1/2 Krone. København (Copenhagen) mint. Hans Christian Nielsen, mintmaster. Knud Gunnar Jensen, engraver. Dated 1924 HCN GJ. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem uncirculated." Altho Denmark was neutral in World War One, it was subject to the same higher prices for raw materials. When the one and two kroner were converted to aluminum bronze in 1924, this half krone was introduced. It seems to have been a failure, as it was terminated in 1926. A second attempt in 1939-40 also flopped. Commemoratives continued to be issued in silver.
Recorded mintage: 2,150,000.
Specification: 3 g, aluminum bronze, 20 mm diameter, this specimen 20 mm diameter, 2.86 g, 12h axis.
