Denmark 1812 skilling
This specimen was lot 1810 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €130 (about US$175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DÄNEMARK, KÖNIGREICH, Frederik VI. 1808-1839. Ku.-Skilling 1812, Altona. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick VI, 1808-39, copper skilling of 1812, Altona mint. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The one skilling was also struck in billon 1808-10 (KM 662). This one year type, like many European minors, is scandalously undervalued. At the time, the monetary system was 12 penning = 1 skilling, 16 skillings = one mark, 4 mark = one krone, 6 mark = one daler specie, 2 daler specie = one ducat. Danish coinage was reformed in 1813, 1854 and 1874.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper.
