Denmark 1812 12 skilling
This specimen was lot 74306 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 12 Skilling, 1812. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik VI. PCGS MS-62 Brown. Clearly showing the undertype, a 1771 Skilling, this nearly-Choice specimen presents charming brilliance and a brown-bronze hue." This is a one year type, manufactured using old Danish skillings as blanks. The SCWC says this issue should bear mintmaster's initials "IC", which we don't see on this example. Twelve skilling made one eighth of a specie daler. The coinage was reformed in 1813, 1854 and 1875.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 11.69 g, copper, 24.45 mm diameter, security edge.
