Denmark 1815 2 skilling
This specimen was lot 2436 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK: Frederik VI, 1808-1839, AE 2 skilling, 1815, KM-Tn4, Rigsbank token issue with crowned arms of Denmark, Norway and Holstein, PCGS graded AU55." Frederik VI sided with Napoleon during the Napoleonic War and suffered blockage, bombardment and the loss of the navy as a result. Unable to support the cost of the war, the government declared bankruptcy and repudiated its banknotes in 1813. A new rigsbank was established in 1814, nominally independent of the regime, to give credence to the new currency. This token two skilling was accompanied by three skilling (KM Tn5) and four skilling (KM Tn6). Denmark was forced to surrender Norway to Sweden in 1814 at the Congress of Vienna. The banknotes did not achieve par with silver until the late 1830's.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.5 g, copper, 17 mm diameter, reeded edge.
