Denmark 1655 krone Fr-120
This specimen was lot 1067 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €66,000 (about US$73,141 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Stunning Gem Krone that Displays Immense Flashy Luster, DENMARK. Gold Krone, 1655. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik III. NGC MS-65. Mintmaster: Henrik Köhler. Engraver: Matthias Först or Jermias Hercules. A miraculous Gem quality survivor with gleaming luster that illuminates the surfaces and a strike that is nearly complete on both sides. A true miracle survivor for the period, as the chances of a gold coin with fragile surfaces appearing nearly perfectly untouched by time and human hands after close to four centuries is beyond reason. However, here it is, virtually as struck, and evidently the best of only two in private hands."
This type comes with date below (shown here) and date above (KM 206.1). The weight standard given here is taken from Numista; the SCWC states 2.97 g, which is wrong. One gold krone was 16 mark or four silver kroner.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 6.00 g.
