The first specimen was lot 55164 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Krone (4 Mark), 1653. Copenhagen Mint. Frederick III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details. From the Collection of Richard Evans Norton (1872-1946)." The second specimen was lot 10211 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €2,160 (about US$2,251). The catalog description[2] noted, "DENMARK. Krone, 1653. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Rare type with the chain of the order of St. Michael surrounding the monogram. It is presumed the adding of the chain of St. Michael was due to the king being initiated into the order. No further evidence have been found to collaborate the theory, though. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale-1922). Ex: Jacob Gude Collection 1811." Danish crowns of the seventeenth century range from the scarce to the obscenely rare. This one year type is rare. Kroner were issued in numerous varieties in 1653.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.671 fine silver. The second specimen is 22.24 g.
