Danzig 1762-REOE 30 groszy
This specimen was lot 34645 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $468. The catalog description[1] noted, "Poland: Danzig. August III 30 Groszy 1762-REOE MS60 NGC, Danzig mint. Weakly struck reverse center, light amethyst and chromatic silver toning." This thirty groszy or gulden was struck in Danzig, then a semi-independent city on the shores of the Baltic. Augustus III was the third Saxon to be king of Poland but left Polish affairs to his viceroy while he patronized opera in Dresden. On his death in 1763, his son succeeded to the electorate but the Russians installed Stanisław August Poniatowski as king of Poland, to the gain of Saxony, which was now severed from the anarchy in Poland.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 9.85 g, silver.
