Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 76652
SB925-76652r.jpg

This specimen was lot 76652 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Danzig. 30 Groszy, 1763. August III. PCGS VF-35." This type was struck 1762-63 by the elector of Saxony for the kingdom of Poland and was called there a Złotówka gdańska. It is very scarce. Augustus III was the third Saxon to be king of Poland but left Polish affairs to his viceroy while he patronized opera in Dresden. On his death in 1763, his son succeeded to the electorate but the Russians installed Stanisław August Poniatowski as king of Poland, to the gain of Saxony, which was now severed from the anarchy in Poland.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.85 g, 0.500 fine silver, 33 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-119; Kop-7780.
