Steve Album sale 51, lot 1130

This specimen was lot 1130 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND: DANZIG: August III, 1733-1763, BI 6 groszy, 1762, initials REOE, PCGS graded AU53." Elector Frederick August of Saxony was also king of Poland and issues for the two regions bear a strong resemblance. This six groszy was issued in various forms 1760-63 (KM 112, 113, 117) and the reported mintage is likely for all the issues combined. On Frederick August's death in 1763, his son succeeded to the electorate but the Russians installed Stanisław August Poniatowski as king of Poland, to the gain of Saxony, which was now severed from the anarchy in Poland.

Recorded mintage: 8,000,000 for 1760-63.

Specification: 2.94 g, silver, 25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-117, Kop-7756.
