Danzig 1650-GR 3-1/2 ducats Fr-29a
This specimen was lot 2183 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €60,000 (about US$82,542 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POLEN, DANZIG Stadt. 3 1/2 Dukaten 1650, mit Titel Johann Kasimirs (1649-1668). EX AURO SOLIDO CIVITAS GEDANENSIS FIERI F : Stadtansicht, unten halten zwei Löwen das Stadtwappen, zu den Seiten das Münzmeisterzeichen G - R (Gerhard Rogge, Stempelschneider und Münzmeister in Danzig 1639-1656) und die geteilte Jahreszahl 16 - 50, oben strahlender Name Jehovas//IOAN CAS : D : G : REX POL : & SUEC : M : D L RUS : PR : Gekröntes und geharnischtes Brustbild Johann Kasimirs r. mit umgelegter Ordenskette. GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 352, Osnabrück 2021, Nr. 1388; zuvor erworben 1938 bei der Firma Julius Jenke, München. (kingdom of Poland, city of Danzig, 3½ ducats of 1650, struck in the name of John Casimir, 1649-68. Obverse: city view, below which two lions support the city arms and divide the date and mintmaster's initials; above the Name of the Lord in a glory; reverse: crowned, armored and mantled bust of John Casimir with order chain. Extremely rare, about extremely fine.)"
Numista shows a ten ducats with this design and we have a three ducats posted here. As these were made for presentation, hitting an exact weight was not a priority.
