Danzig 1649-GR ducat Fr-24
This specimen was lot 41177 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $25,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lovely Mint State Ducat of John Casimir, POLAND. Danzig. Ducat, 1649-GR. Danzig Mint. John Casimir. PCGS MS-61. A splendiferous Mint State example that bounds with a beaming luster, and sharply struck details. All Danzig gold of this period is endlessly demanded, with examples such as this in Mint State condition particularly so. Deserved of endless bids, we foresee no shortage of active bidders for this Ducat. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." On Wladyslaw's death in 1648, aged 52 years, he was succeeded by his half brother Jan Casimir. This ducat, struck 1649-57, is expensive but slightly more available than those of Wladyslaw.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold.
