Stack's Bowers February 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74361

This specimen was lot 74361 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "CZECHOSLOVAKIA. 500 Korun, 1992. PCGS MS-68. Commemorating the 400th anniversary of Jan Komensky. An incredibly brilliant example with full cartwheel luster and delicate detail throughout." This NCLT is one of the last issues of Czechoslovakia before the Slovaks divorced the Czechs. Like many obscure NCLT's, it is hard to find but in low demand.

"John Amos Comenius (Czech: Jan Amos Komenský; 28 March 1592 – 15 November 1670) was a Moravian philosopher, pedagogue and theologian who is considered the father of modern education. He served as the last bishop of the Unity of the Brethren before becoming a religious refugee and one of the earliest champions of universal education."
