This specimen was lot 30411 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold Proof "100th Anniversary" 100 Pesos 1995 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Mintage unlisted in the Standard Catalog of World Coins. Struck for the Centennial of the Necessary War ("Guerra Necesaria")." The year 1995 saw the release of many NCLT's by the regime. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. The first war of independence erupted in the 1870's and was eventually crushed by Spanish authorities after slavery was abolished. The second war broke out in 1895 and led to the Spanish-American War and Yankee intervention. Cuba won her political independence in 1902 but became an economic satellite of the United States.
