This specimen was lot 24412 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $2,467.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 1/2 Escudo 1854-JB, MS64 NGC Norweb Collection (with the original envelope), a superb little coin with fully lustrous surfaces and deeply struck design features. Easily the finest example of this type that we have seen." The SCWC lists this date as common but this type almost never appears fully struck.

Recorded mintage: 4,663.

Specification: 1.60 g, 0.875 fine gold, .045 troy oz AGW.
